The worst year of my life….

Happy New Year!

Les Dawson

Izzy is also currently trying to perfect her Les Dawson impression.  This is the best photo so far we have got of her practicing

Bennies

So Isabel as amazing and beautiful as she is, has taken the time to start learning the ancient art of “bennying”.  This beautiful art is well known within the Carter household and has been seen many times over the generations.

Bennying is when something Isabel wants such as a toy, a ribena bottle, a knife, or a pan of boiling water is moved away from her and to show her displeasure at us having the gall to want to keep her safe promptly has a benny.

The benny involves firstly putting ones hands on head and looking aghast at what has just occured.  This is quickly followed by ripping ones dummy out of the mouth

and throwing it across the room.  Isabel then lays herself prostrate on the ground with her forehead on the ground and screams and screams and screams.  This is only broken up by Miss Isabel checking to make sure that her benny is being observed.

Bennies are now becoming very commonplace with up to 20+ day.

The benny is used by Miss Carter in just about every situation where she doesn’t get her own way.  There is currently no known antidote for a benny except for letting it pass, giving in and letting Izzy have what she wants or lastly (and this isn’t as sinister as it sounds) laying a pillow on top of her.

The Carter family has many notable “Benniers” with Millie and Amber both known as legends within the discipline.  I myself was also known as a great bennier as a child.

Isabel it is rumoured though is the new great hope in the bennying world with her exploits thought to have the potential to top some of the greatest benniers of all time.

Ambulance

So their was a special news report recently on channel 4 basically  criticizing the ambulance service (rather than give us any praise for the hard job we do).  This time the documentary was criticizing fast response cars and the possibility that an ambulance technician might be working on one.

As a paramedic I was really angry watching it and was thinking of writing a reply..Then I saw this blog, which does a much better job than I ever could.

Enough said I think!

Christmas

Christmas was nice…Even though I was working I got to spend a lot of time at my mum and dads and see the family.

I thought it was going to be hard, but as my brother Stu said it was made a lot easier being surrounded by the people I love.

There wasn’t a point in the day when I wasn’t thinking of Trev, but seeing the girls all excited made the day fun…I had a few moments when little things reminded me of how much we were missing, but all in all I had a nice day and once again I know for sure IWTWHW.

I realised this Christmas as well that doing the job I do will become more and more of a sacrifice as I get older….Missing Izzys Christmas day was hard this year, but at least she didn’t really know what was going on..It will get harder and harder as the years go on to miss out on a lot of these magical moments that all other parents take for granted.

Seeing her at night though was brilliant and having her smiling and playing with her cousins was just great.

I wanted to write more but am really tired and seeing as its Christmas I am off for a little snooze

First Steps

So Izzy has began over the last few days to take her first steps.  It is only one or two at the moment before she falls on her bum, but it is great to see her starting to walk.

People always talk about moments such as first steps and first words, but I have found they are not really a single moment, but more of a progression.  Izzy is constantly speaking at the moment with all kinds of words and babble and it is hard to say when she really said her first words.  The same can be said with walking as she is constantly stumbling and walking a step.

That is not to say it isn’t just as magical because it is…Seeing your daughter take a step or two towards you will fill you with a sense of pride like none other I have ever experienced.

Every single day is more and more interesting (and frustrating) with Izzy and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

Merry Christmas

Just want to wish you all a merry Christmas and to remind you to give all of your loved ones a big hug.

Cut

Tim Minchin has had this song cut from the Jonathan Ross show as the producers thought it was too controversial as it sang abot Jesus.

They are quite happy to have an idiot Scientologist on their show though.

This is pure censorship and they should be ashamed!

Little Things

I have had the best day…Izzy and I spent the day watching Christmas films (including Elf the best Christmas film ever) and dancing together to Christmas songs..

Couldn’t ask for a better way to spend a day

Meal

So we went out for our annual friends christmas meal on saturday and had a really nice time.  Nothing particulary exciting or newsworthy happened, but it was lovely to get everyone together.

I am finding it hard at the moment to get any enthusiasm at all for going out, which is not like me at all (especially during the festive season).  I find I just can’t be bothered most of the time and would rather just stay in and look at the tv.  I am finding less and less enthusiasm for anything at all and this is something I think I need to keep an eye on as we head into the new year.

I am going to make sure I go out tonight to see my friends band as it is the last chance before Christmas as I start work again on friday and don’t finish till the 27th.

A friend of mine put this on facebook and I thought it was great so I am repeating it on here

This season of merry and drunken nights out please remember that somewhere an ambulance crew is being yelled at for taking too long to get there, trying to save the life of a total stranger, holding their bladder because their radio or phone just went off, starving because they missed a meal, having to keep a stone face or a strong voice at an accident scene where there’s 2 dead kids, and now its …4 am, and they’re missing THEIR family and loved ones while taking care of YOURS. Just remember this, if you need us we will be there, but please dont abuse us. Its the work we do for you and your loved ones 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 365 days a year… Merry Christmas and I hope you all have a great one
