So I am currently really into a programme called Pitbulls and Parolees which is basically an American pitbull rescue centre that employs parolees to help look after the dogs and begin to give the ex prisoners a chance at some real work and a chance to get out of the life of crime.

The programme is also trying to teach people that pitbulls are not the monsters that they are made out to be in the media.

In this country if a dog is found to be a pitbull it is immediately destroyed under the dangerous dogs act……let me repeat that it is “immediately destroyed”!

This doesn’t mean it is destroyed if it has bit someone, or has been aggressive or anti social, it is destroyed purely because it is a pitbull.

This is an absolute disgrace that a dog that has never been aggressive or shown any kind of negative behaviours will be destroyed purely because of its breed….A loving family dog that has never been anything, but loving and caring can be put down because of its breed is something that should shock every single animal lover to the core.

Pitbulls used to be the hero dog.  They were police dogs, family protectors and considered the most loyal of all dogs and then the media campaign against them began because some evil people had used them for fighting.

Breeds are not inherently evil, it is the people who don’t socialise and look after these dogs properly that are evil.  The media then portrays these dogs as demons and perpertrating myths about them (pitbulls cannot lock their jaws it is pure lies) doesn’t help.

Did you know that in the early 20th century these dogs were considered the devil dogs and people would routinely cross the street to avoid them..

As the lady on the programme says..yes there are pitbulls who are beyond help (usually due to the cruelty of man) but most just need some help..

A pitbull is definitely not a dog for everyone but I think it is horrible that they are being destroyed becasue of the “crimes” of their peers..

Lets just say its lucky we don’t judge the human race in that way…
