Mars

So I was trying to explain to Carla today why the Space X Dragon docking with the ISS was such an amazing thing, and why this was a pivitol day in the history of space travel.
This got us on to talking about going to Mars….
Carla thinks going to Mars is a big waste of time and money as it won’t gain us anything, it won’t make us any money and it won’t cure any diseases.
I tried to explain that surely just the human achievement would be so wonderous and amazing that alone makes it totally worthwhile. That the point of life is for humans to expand both physically and mentally and that exploring the stars is surely the greatest thing mankind will do…
That going to Mars is such an incredible feat to be achieved by such a small insignificant species as us, that it cannot but help unite the world for a few moments in time as we wonder at what our limits might be…
That the thought of a human being stepping foot on another planet literally blows my mind….
Human achievement bah!! was her reply
Olympic Flame

So the Olympic flame came through Swindon today…Thats right a man holding a stick on fire ran through the town, and thousands of people turned out to see it.
It was only at the end of my road but I had paint to watch dry so I didn’t bother..
Oh and seeing as the Olympics is sponsered by Proctor and Gamble I wonder if they tested that flame on thousands of animals first to make sure it really did burn?
Holiday

So the weekend just gone Carla, Izzy and me went away with the in-laws to Haven holiday park in Weymouth….and we had a brilliant time.
We did so much stuff and Izzy spent most of the weekend in absolute awe of everything going on around her. I think I spent the whole holiday just watching Izzys reaction to everything.
We got there friday and set up in our caravan before heading off down to the clubhouse so that Izzy and her cousin Lydia could meet the Zoo Troup. Izzy has a Bradley bear toy and was very excited that she was going to get to meet him. The meeting didn’t go quite as planned as when she saw him she started waving and cheering and pointing at him, but as soon as he got near she gripped on to me for dear life and began frantically waving bye…
As long as we stayed at least 5m away she loved him..
Anyways the first night at the clubhouse consisted mainly of Izzy and Lydia running around on the dance floor, waving brightly coloured flashing things, running around more and generally having the time of their lives. It was so nice to watch, it was the first time we had really taken Izzy away when she has been old enough to get involved in things. Seeing her face as the various characters came on stage and the excitement at each and everything going on was brilliant.
On Wednesday we took the girls to Weymouth beach..I have so many good memories of being kids on this beach that I was really looking forward to it. The day didn’t disappoint…
We rode donkeys (probably my favourite bit of the weekend), we rode merry go rounds, we went on trampolines, we built sandcastles, we had a picnic on the beach, we ate ice cream , we buried each other in the sand.
What made me laugh was Izzy wouldn’t stand on the beach in bare feet…She had proper bennies about it and needed to be picked up all the time. We got over this by putting her in wellies and she was fine. We then took her down to the sea and tried to get her to paddle in her bare feet, she hated this so much that she immediately ran out onto the beach.
She was so relieved to be out of the “deadly” sea that she didn’t realise for ages that she was on the sand. Realising the sand wasn’t molten lava she was from then on quite happy to play in it….:D
Then we went back to the caravan park and repeated the entertainment all over again…Now I have to say second time round isn’t quite as fun as it gets quite repetative and if we were staying there a week then the zoo troup would have had problems with a murderous dad I think..
In between all this we went swimming (Izzy now officially loves this), I won more cuddly toys on the arcade grabber machines for the kids and we fed the seagulls.
This weekend was about being a family and it was so nice just getting to do normal things that normal people do for once…
It made me realise once again how much the little things in life really do matter…
Screw all the big stuff that will always take care of itself..
Just make sure you make the most of the moments…
Medal

So today I received my Queens Diamond Jubilee Ambulance medal. Basically anyone who has served in frontline duty for more than 5 years (I have done 9 years so far) receives one of these as a recognition of the service they provided.
It is quite cool and is the first medal I have ever got for anything since becoming an adult….still would rather have had a pay rise though…
It is nice though to have as sometimes my job is real hard, not most all of the time or even a lot of the time, but just sometimes.
I don’t think unless you do my job you can realise sometimes just how hard it can be….So it’s nice to get a bit of recognition for that…
I still truely believe though that the money spent on these medals and the whole jubilee celebration as a whole would have been better spent on the NHS and reducing the amount of cuts needed/being forced upon us.
Cotswold Wildlife Park

So on our anniversary we took the Izzmeister to Cotwold Wildlife Park and it was brilliant.
I have never seen her so excited…Everytime we came to a new enclosure she would jump up and down and point excitedly. At the more exotic animals she would look at us as if to say “what the **** is that??!!??”
As soon as we left any animal she would be shouting “more, more”. It was just so much fun seing her enjoying it that a lot of the time we forgot to look at the animals ourselves.
She especially enjoyed the farmyard bit where she got to pet all the animals.
There were the odd animals she didn’t like and it was quite obvious because as soon as we showed them to her her she would start waving and saying “bye” to them and begin backing off.
All in all it was great to spend some time with just the three of us as it is something we don’t get to do very often.
Happy Anniversary

So today is Carla and mines 5th wedding anniversary…I am not one for big declarations or smultzy posts but I did just want to say..
A lot has changed in the 5 years since we got married….Most of it things I wish hadn’t changed…
But the events of the last few years has made me realise just how much Carla is there for me….and I am not sure I would have got through those times without her…
Happy anniversary babe and I love you lots xx

Tantrum

The great fun we had in the morning was spoiled this afternoon by a 45 minute tantrum about….Well actually I don’t even know what she was tantruming about, but lets just say nothing at all would stop her…She stomped and screamed and threw herself to the floor, she rolled around, she pulled her hair and she ripped her tights off…
She only stopped when I said we would call nanny and grampy…who unfortunately weren’t there, but I managed to distract her with pictures of dogs which seemed to be enough to snap her out of it..
I love you more than anything else on this entire planet Izzy, but my patience is worn very thin this afternoon….
Kids Play
04 May 2012 2 Comments

So the last two days I have taken Izzy to two different kids soft play areas..I have taken her to Kids About and today to Jolly Roger.
These places are great you can just let your kids off on their own to roam about, play with other kids and generally have the time of their lives. It also has the bonus that it tires them out meaning you get a lot more of a restful afternoon.
It was brilliant today with Izzy as I got to play on stuff as well, with the excuse that I was going down the big slide because “Izzy wanted to”.
I had a really nice time both days just spending time playing with Izzy and doing things together. It was great watching her exploring and trying out all the different activities. It was also fun seeing her get up the courage to go down the slides on her own or go on the bouncy castle. It usually ended up with daddy going first.
There was just one thing I didn’t like about Jolly Roger where we went today..They have a parrot in a cage that it never comes out of…The cage was also bare with virtually nothig for the parrot to do in there..It seemed really cruel to me. Parrots are known to be extremely intelligent and sociable birds and it just felt wrong that it was spending its whole life cooped up in this little cage with no other birds or even a human owner for company.
That kind of bummed me out in what was otherwise a brilliant morning spent with the Izzmeister.
